Meet Dr Ruth Dyson
During my medical training I developed an interest in complementary therapies and the psychological aspects of medicine. Working as an NHS GP for nearly 20 years has given me direct experience of the complexities of chronic disease and I have sought out additional approaches including nutrition, lifestyle medicine, coaching and hypnotherapy to better support my patients in their healing journey. These approaches can safely be used alongside any conventional care you are receiving.
My approach recognises the close relationship between physical and mental health, and the body's natural ability to heal and restore balance when given the right conditions. Drawing on my experience as a GP and training in lifestyle and integrative medicine, I consider your presenting concerns alongside wider influences on health, including nutrition, sleep, stress, relationships and past experiences. My personalised, trauma-informed approach aims to identify factors that may be affecting your health and explore practical ways to support your body's natural healing abilities and improve your wellbeing.
Who may benefit?
I support people with a wide range of physical and emotional health concerns, including persistent symptoms and long-term conditions. Whether you're looking to improve a particular problem or take a more proactive approach to your health, I offer personalised support to help you improve your wellbeing naturally. I give you time and space to understand your health and we can then work together to improve your health and wellbeing through a holistic approach.
Gut health & IBS
Bloating, digestive discomfort, IBS and food sensitivities/intolerances can significantly affect daily life. I consider the connections between gut health, nutrition, stress and emotional wellbeing and support you to improve symptoms through natural approaches.
Anxiety, low mood & emotional wellbeing
I take a holistic, trauma-informed approach to supporting emotional wellbeing, including anxiety, low mood, fears and phobias, drawing on lifestyle medicine, stress management, positive psychology, hypnotherapy and mind–body techniques.
Stress, burnout & sleep problems
Chronic stress can affect sleep, energy, digestion and emotional wellbeing. Explore practical ways to manage stress, improve sleep and support your body's natural recovery processes.
Hormonal health (PMOS, endometriosis etc) & menopause
Support for women experiencing PMS, PMOS/PCOS, endometriosis, perimenopause, menopause and other hormonal concerns, considering the influence of nutrition, stress, sleep and lifestyle on wellbeing.
Weight & metabolic health (BP, cholesterol, diabetes)
Support with weight concerns, blood sugar, cholesterol and blood pressure balance, through sustainable changes to nutrition, movement, sleep, stress management and other lifestyle factors.
Persistent pain, fatigue & inflammation (CFS, fibr0myalgia, arthritis)
Persistent pain, fatigue and brain fog can have complex contributing factors. A whole-person approach explores lifestyle, stress, past experiences and mind–body connections alongside your existing medical care.
Integrated and Holistic Approaches
Symptoms and health conditions that appear unrelated can sometimes share common underlying causes or contributing factors. Rather than looking at each problem in isolation, my approach considers the bigger picture, exploring connections and factors that may be contributing to ill health.
Given the right conditions and support your body and mind have an innate ability to heal.
By combining conventional medical understanding with nutrition, lifestyle medicine and mind–body approaches, we can explore ways to support the body's natural healing processes and improve overall health and wellbeing.
Lifestyle Medicine Health & Wellbeing Support
Supports patients to improve their health through nutrition, physical activity, stress management, sleep and reducing toxins e.g. alcohol/smoking. Helps you to know not just WHAT to do to improve, but also HOW to do it, and offers support to put in place manageable approaches which improve your wellbeing.
Functional Medicine informed approach
Looks beyond individual symptoms to explore the wider picture of your health. Considers how apparently unrelated health concerns may be connected through shared underlying processes, and explores factors such as nutrition, lifestyle and environment that may be contributing to ill health. The aim is to support the body's natural healing abilities and improve overall wellbeing.
Hypnotherapy
A powerful, natural, evidence-based approach which helps you harness the relaxation response and the power of your unconscious mind to improve your health and wellbeing. Hypnotherapy can help you change unhelpful patterns of thinking, feeling and behaviour, reduce stress and anxiety, improve sleep, reduce IBS symptoms and support positive changes in both physical and emotional health.
